In the spirit of creative collaboration, Les Seymour and Brenda Cole Seymour founded Mural Arts studio more than twenty years ago. The professional mural painters work closely with interior designers, architects and their developer clients in the design and execution of custom fine art murals, decorative painting, mosaic and tapestry. The artists also work directly with residential patrons creating the finest murals and paintings for homes such as hand-painted Chinoiserie wallpaper. While employing a small staff of assisting artists, the professional muralists create murals, paintings and artwork for commercial and residential interiors and exteriors. Mural Arts studio is known worldwide for their mastery of a diverse range of styles, themes and periods. It would not be unusual to see part of the studio painting 18c. style trompe l’oeil for a residence and on another wall, a 500 square foot airbrush art ceiling mural for a nightclub. A visit to the studio only weeks later and they might be completing a mid century modern painting and a mural in classical Pompeian fresco style. Many of the projects at Mural Arts require a high level of artistic engineering. Very large painted and mosaic murals, for instance, are made in the San Francisco studio, then shipped in sections and installed to appear as though they were executed onsite. In addition, the studio prides itself in creating art for any surface. Mural Arts has developed products and techniques for painting on acoustically transparent fabric, as well as a fresco finish on fabric that can be applied to compound curves such as a ceiling dome. Many of the murals and artworks incorporate metallic, pearlescent, Venetian plaster, or gold and silver leaf gilding. The mosaic murals are unique in that they include large amounts of iridescent, metallic and gold leaf glass tile. Whether restoration of historic murals, architectural ornament, Art Deco painting or metal leaf gilding, all projects are carefully researched, and designed by Les and Brenda Cole Seymour.
The murals for hotels and artwork are hand painted originals; some are thousands of square feet in size. The professional mural artists create most of the custom murals in the studio although very often, exterior murals are painted on-site. The California muralists create retail store murals on location or as murals on canvas that are made in the San Francisco art studio and shipped for installation. The mural art is painted on mural canvas or muslin with a specially prepared primer and ground. This unique ground gives the murals a rich patina similar to an old world fresco or fine art surface while adding durability and longevity to the mural artwork. The murals are washable and suitable for commercial and exterior use. They are rolled for shipping and installed much like wall covering. A class “A” fire rating with certification is available when required. This is a requirement for theater murals, retail murals, public space murals and even some residential murals.
